Full Size White Bed Base + Mattress $200

I'm moving back to Sydney and need to sell my bed.

The mattress is about 2 years old and SUPER comfortable -- it's not super soft, but it isn't firm. It's clean.

The base is particle board and white, I bought it at the beginning of the year.

Cash only and you have to arrange transportation for it, let me know if you're interested.

I'm in the outer Sunset near Golden Gate Park.

x-posted.

Good Taste (my new informal, gay-friendly, Bay-Area dining club)

I wanted to post this to this community since I don't think we have any gay gourmands on board yet (other than myself), and naturally we queers tend to enjoy one another's company.

"Eating Out" was my first thought for the group's name, but that may not have been in very Good Taste.

I am relatively new to the Bay Area but this is my new permanent home, but have the feeling I've lived here before. I work as a concierge/front desk agent at a cool historic hotel in downtown, very close to Union Square, the gate to Chinatown, etc. There are so many fabulous restaurants here and I love cuisine, wine, etc., and would like to dine out more so I can speak with firsthand knowledge to my guests and recommend restaurants. But being new I haven't developed a big group of friends yet, and dining alone is just not as fun. So I thought I'd see if some others wanted to get together, maybe twice a month or so, and dine at a different restaurant each time. I thought of posting this to this group since the Mission is known for its superabundance of amazing eateries. I can make reservations for us using Open Table or Restaurant Row, as is my wont. I like all types of food, honestly I don't think there's a single type of cuisine where I haven't found a single dish I can get with (I love sushi and sashimi, love Italian and classical French cooking, Mexican/Cuban/Salvadoran, LOVE German food and beer, etc).

I guess I don't really want to impose any restrictions as far as selecting the kind of people I'd like to dine with - I'm just thinking a very informal and casual thing where we get to eat some great food and meet some new people at the same time. I can do anything from a dive bar to a five-star, cloth-napking-and-sommelier type joint; I can dress up and I can dress down. My profile and list of interests will of course give you a sense of who I am. I'm really looking forward to getting to know this amazing city better. I live in Oakland but commute to downtown SF daily by BART for work (and am looking to move into SF proper soon, especially after being mugged/assaulted near my house the other night).

We've planned our first meet-up/group dining experience for Monday 11/23 at 8pm; inquire within for details. LET'S EAT!

You can view the Google Groups page I've started for us here.

Thank you for your support

Selfish a**hole of the week -- East Bay Division

Where to park your new BMW convertible (CA license plate #6HEB477)? How about the space next to the handicapped space -- or even better, some of both spaces? There's lots of room on the other side, and inconveniencing some gimp in a wheelchair is a small price to pay for making sure your car doesn't get its doors dinged. We have to think about our priorities here.

Action Alert from the National Coalition for LGBT Health

The federal Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is considering creating a dedicated Office of LGBT Health. This would be an incredible affirmation of the importance of LGBT health and would help keep LGBT health concerns high on the list of priorities for attention, funding, and programming.

HHS is expected to make this decision before Thanksgiving. Due to the tight timeline, we are asking groups and organizations to sign on to the letter below by not later than 1 PM EST tomorrow (Friday, 11/20).

If your group or organization would like to sign on, please email Kellan Baker, Policy Associate at the National Coalition for LGBT Health, at kellan@lgbthealth.net. Please do not hesitate to contact Kellan with any questions.

Please join us in supporting an Office of LGBT Health and a healthier future for the LGBT community!

WTF NO D:

I just looked and my left propeller key's got a split right down the middle. HOW? D:

A replacement keyboard's going to cost like £50. Seeing as the laptop's on its last legs anyway (the screen corruption problem's not going away) I think I can manage for now - money'd be better put towards a Hackintosh-capable mobo (not got the cash for a new real Mac atm, but since Snow Leopard came out it's apparently really easy to roll your own now).

US: ENDA Vote Postponed in House Over Trans Related Language

Lawyers Tweak ENDA Language

The Advocate
November 17, 2009
By Kerry Eleveld

A House committee vote on the Employment Non-discrimination Act, originally scheduled for Wed., Nov. 18, was postponed so that lawyers could adjust the legal language regarding issues of disparate impact, double recovery, and attorney’s fees.

“Our understanding is that the committee lawyers wanted a few more days to look at several of the outstanding issues,” said Allison Herwitt, legislative director of the Human Rights Campaign.

ENDA would prohibit employers from discriminating against workers on the basis of their sexual orientation or gender identity. The legal fine-tuning stands to push back the date of the committee vote by about two-to-three weeks. “Hopefully, we’ll be able to see a markup after Thanksgiving and before the end of the year,” Herwitt said.

Rep. Barney Frank of Massachusetts, lead sponsor of the bill, has suggested the full House vote might not take place until February of next year.

Dentist recommendations in the East Bay?

I have a couple cavities that I think I should get taken care of sooner than later. But. I -hate- the dentist. Irrationally. So I need a very very patient, kind, gentle dentist, whose willing to work with me, so I don't bite them. Recommendations? East Bay (Dublin/Pleasanton specifically) preferred, but I'm willing to drive up to an hour for the right person. Must take insurance.

US: Help for Gay Caregivers Who Look After Elderly

Help for Gay Caregivers Who Look After Elderly
NY Times
November 16, 2009
By BAO ONG

SAGE: Michelle Obama with Laurie Young, aging-policy analyst with the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force.

When Michelle Obama pitched the president’s health care reform efforts to a room of women at the White House last week, one group of New Yorkers present clung to every word.

And when Mrs. Obama mentioned that “families come in many different configurations,” Karen Taylor, the director of advocacy and training at Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders, nodded in approval.

SAGE, a New York-based nonprofit group that supports gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender caregivers, this week is beginning a “Caring and Preparing” initiative to provide such caregivers an array of resources: assistance with insurance benefits and entitlements, counseling, legal assistance, and various outreach and support programs.

The program comes as research suggests that gay and lesbian baby boomers are more likely to be caregivers than their heterosexual contemporaries, including siblings. The challenges facing gay elderly people are also drawing more attention: Last month, the health and human services secretary, Kathleen Sebelius, announced plans to create a national resource center to support elderly gays and lesbians.

are you keeping track of movies you watched?

It's not about a local event, although questions feels to me relevant to the most advanced and computer literate audience in the world — people living in the Bay Area:
Do you keep track of the movies you watched (I mean besides the netflix queue which you could request to be sent to your email), going to watch or own copies in dvd/files/whatever else format? Did you ever find yourself in the situation that the movie you just started watching isn't really new for you — it's something you already saw, but forgot the title since then? I do forget the titles often.

Friends of mine created as a side project a list service to keep track of these things, and looking for real-world people's experience to figure out where to move their site next. Not showing the name of their service here (trying to avoid any advertising), but they'd really appreciate your answers to a short questionarie. Please, help if you can.
